Currently, the process can take more than 2 weeks after placing an order for dedicated ports and requires a lot of coordination with multiple teams. The same process repeats every time a new customer orders the port. By having preconfigured dedicated ports which are already patched, customer can right away order and start using the service.

The importance of this feature to reduce initial provisioning time is recognized. However, the ETA for this is TBD because of uncertainty on the roll out of the automated backend provisioning mechanism (via Equinix Digital LOA) and its support for Equinix Metal.
